Why do I keep getting logged out during my session? - Back to top
If you share your login with someone else, you may find that you get logged out when they log in using your credentials. We do not permit more than a single simultaneous login session with a specific member Id. If you do attempt this, you will find that the most recent login will always negate any prior login.
Why does the "Remember Me" login option sometimes not work? - Back to top
The "Remember Me" login option keeps you logged into LegisWeb only on the computer and browser type you logged in on. If you login from another computer or you login from a different browser type your session will be invalidated. If you use multiple browsers (such as Internet Explorer and Firefox), you will find that the login sessions for each browser are kept separate and that logging in on one browser type will invalidate the login session of other browser types.
Why is the information shown in the Table of Sections Affected not current? - Back to top
The California Legislature does not update the Table of Sections Affected (also known as TOSA) as frequently as the legislation itself. For that reason, you may see a lag in the information.
Sometimes when I compare a proposed amendment with the existing law, I see no change. Why is this? - Back to top
If the legislation you are viewing has already been adopted, then the changes proposed may already have been applied to the codes. In that case, you would see no changes. Also, in some cases, the net change after some legislation has run its course through the two houses is no change at all.
The changes shown after a comparison differ from what I would expect from the legislation. Why is this? - Back to top
There could be a few reasons for this. First, the comparison is done using an algorithm that compares the wording of one version of text with another. Although the algorithm is designed to mimic the rules that the state uses for authoring legislation, the manner in which the application chooses can easily differ from the way in which a particular human author may have chosen to show the changes. However, the difference between the two representations of the change should be non-substantive. Sometime though, you may see different changes that are substantive. This can arise if the law has been amended since the legislation was drafted.
Sometimes it seems that the information retrieved for comparison is not correct. Why is this? - Back to top
Sometimes code section and heading numbers are ambiguous - there are duplicates. In cases like this, the legislation will supply qualifying language written as 'as amended by ...' to disambiguate the reference to a heading or section within the codes. However, we are not able to use this information as the California Legislative Portal does not publish the information known as the 'LAF Text' with each heading or section in the codes. This LAF Text would be matched up with the qualifying language and would allow us to retrieve the correct section or heading.
I cannot see a pattern in the search results ordering. What is it? - Back to top
The search results are provided by way of the search engines at the California Legislative Portal. Those search engines organize the results by number of occurences of a search term within a document.
Why are tables not formatted correctly? - Back to top
The information we get from the California Legislature provides simple text with little formatting. We do not get enough information to reliably recognize tables when they occur.
I don't use Windows and don't have access to Windows Media Player. How can I view the videos? - Back to top
The videos are provided by The California Channel and are supplied in only a Windows Media format. If you don't have access to Windows Media Player, you can try the VLC media player at http://www.videolan.org/vlc/.
